Measurements of fusion reaction history in inertially confined burning plasmas

Direct evidence of inertially confined fusion ignition appears in the abrupt temperature increase and consequent rapid thermonuclear burn rate as seen reaction history. The Gamma Reaction History (GRH) Gas Cherenkov Detector (GCD) diagnostics are γ-based detectors that provide high quality measurements deuterium–tritium γ ray production are, thus, capable monitoring rate. Temporal shifts both peak time width have been observed during recent high-yield shots (yields greater than 1017 neutrons) essential diagnostic signatures process. While current GRH GCD fast enough to sense changes history due alpha heating, they do not dynamic range capture onset heating. next generation instrumentation, GRH-15m, is proposed yield-rate coverage measure alpha-heating.
